1) A bill has been introduced in Congress that would decriminalize marijuana on the federal level, and allow the individual states to decide how they want to handle it. President Trump says he will respect states rights on the issue and would support a federal change to bring consistency.
Should marijuana be decriminalized at the national level?
2) Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has removed the authority for local BLM offices to delay oil and gas leases while management plans are drawn up for specific areas. The BLM had put leases on hold in the Greater Little Mountain Area in southwest Wyoming while the Sweetwater County commissioners worked with local groups on a conservation plan. Zinke’s decision means that 700,000 acres in southwest Wyoming will be available for leasing in December. The county commissioners and groups representing hunters and fishermen are objecting, but the Petroleum Association of Wyoming is applauding the move.

1) A judge in California has ruled that Starbucks and other coffee companies have to post a cancer warning, because a chemical used in the bean roasting process is a known carcinogen. The coffee industry is fighting back, saying the amount of the carcinogen is too small to cause harm. They say they can’t remove the chemical without affecting the taste.

2) The federal government, including Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who is from Montana, is considering blocking gold mining from the mountains just north of Yellowstone National Park, citing concerns about the impact on the environment. Mining companies say they have been working in the area for years and the impact of new mines would be minimal.
