What:  Cheyenne Area “Shop With A Cop”

When:  December 19th, 2018 At Approximately 3:45 p.m.

Where:  Cheyenne Southeast Walmart, 580 Livingston Avenue (Campstool and College)

The Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and Cheyenne Police Department will be teaming up again this year for the Cheyenne area “Shop With A Cop” event on December 19th.

Approximately 30 elementary students from Laramie County School Districts will be picked up from their respective schools by an officer and taken to the southeast Cheyenne Walmart at 580 Livingston Avenue (Campstool and College) by a patrol vehicle.  All officers and kids should be at Walmart around 3:45 p.m. on the 19th.

Each student will get to shop with an officer and spend up to a $100 or more as they wish.

The intent of this event is to provide these children with a little merrier holiday season as well as providing them with a positive experience with law enforcement. Any additional funds received above and beyond what is needed for the Shop with a Cop event will go to providing school lunches for children in need throughout Laramie County.

In 2017, there were 35 students from 30 Laramie County schools who were able to go shopping with 38 law enforcement officers. Through the generosity of the public, Walmart employees, and officers pitching in out of their own pockets, the students were able to shop, spending over $4000.00. Most of the children purchased groceries and necessary items for their families rather than spending it all on themselves.  An additional $3000.00 was raised and given to the local school districts to provide lunches for students who cannot afford to buy them and who may not qualify for the federally funded programs.
