By Katie Kull, Wyoming Tribune Eagle (CHEYENNE) – The Cheyenne Police Department is investigating the death of a man in east Cheyenne as a suspected homicide.
Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta said one man died in a single-family home in the 3300 block of Belaire Avenue around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“At this point, we are interviewing everybody involved, and we can say there is not an ongoing threat,” Malatesta said. “The scene is secure.”
The exact cause of the man’s death is still under investigation, and his name has not yet been released because his family has not been notified.
Several Cheyenne Police Department officers were in the area and Ridge Road was still closed as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Although many members of the police department were wearing SWAT gear, the entire Laramie County SWAT team was not called to the scene, Malatesta said.
“Our SWAT team is made up of regular patrol officers, so as those officers are responding they’re putting on all of their gear,” he said. “It wasn’t a SWAT callout.”
Malatesta said the police hope to release more information, including the man’s name, at some point today.
